Your local electrician in Motherwell

Motherwell is right on our doorstep, next door to Wishaw, so it is some of our quickest work to reach. We cover the whole town, from the older homes around Ladywell and Muir Street to Forgewood, Muirhouse and the new streets at Ravenscraig. We work for homes and businesses alike.

It might be a full rewire, a fuse box upgrade, an EV charger or a fault that needs tracing. Whatever it is, you get a local contractor who turns up when promised. We protect your home while we work and certify the job properly.

Our base is on Main Street in Wishaw. Motherwell is the next town along, so we are here often.

A steel town with homes from every era

Motherwell grew fast on iron and steel. About 600 people lived here in the early 1800s. By 1900 it was home to around 37,000. Lots of homes went up to house the workers. Homes that old have often been rewired once. Some still have an old fuse box or too few sockets.

Estates came next. Forgewood, in the north-west of the town, is mainly houses and low-rise flats. Most of the flats there have been modernised. Cleekhimin, near Jerviston, began as a mining hamlet and later became a council estate.

Ravenscraig steelworks closed in 1992. Before work began, the site was one of the biggest empty sites in Europe. Now it has a college, a sports centre and hundreds of new homes. The plan for the site runs to about 2045.

What we get called out for in Motherwell

Rewires in older homes

Older homes near the town centre often need a rewire or a new board. We work room by room and make good as we go.

Ravenscraig add-ons

New homes at Ravenscraig already have modern boards. The work there is mostly extra sockets, garden power and EV chargers.

Linked fire alarms

Scottish homes need linked smoke and heat alarms. We fit mains-wired sets and test them before we leave.

Landlord safety checks

Private landlords in Scotland need an electrical safety check at least every 5 years. We test, report and fix what fails.

What we do in Motherwell

Electrician in Motherwell, questions answered

How much does a fuse box upgrade cost in Motherwell?

It depends on the board, how many circuits you have and what the tests find. We look at your home first, then give you one fixed price in writing before any work starts. The quote is free.

Can you fit an EV charger at a new Ravenscraig home?

Yes. We check your board and supply first. Then we fit the charger on its own circuit and certify it to BS 7671.

Do I need to change my fire alarms?

If your alarms are not linked, yes. Scottish homes need linked smoke alarms in the living room and every hall and landing, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. Mains-wired alarms should be fitted by a qualified electrician.

I let a flat in Motherwell. What do I need?

An electrical safety check at least every 5 years under the Repairing Standard. If three or more people from different families share it, you also need an HMO licence from North Lanarkshire Council.
