Your local electrician in Wishaw

Wishaw is home, so this is where you will find us most. We work from the flats and terraces around Main Street and Cambusnethan out to Craigneuk, Gowkthrapple and Netherton. We look after homes, landlords and businesses across the town and the villages around it.

Rewires, fuse box upgrades, extra sockets, EV chargers, solar, fault finding and EICRs all come up here. Whatever the job, you get a local SELECT-registered contractor who answers the phone and turns up when promised. You get one clear fixed price before anything starts.

We are based at 165 Main Street, Wishaw. This is our home town, so most jobs here are a short trip for us.

Wishaw homes, from 1900s flats to new builds

Wishaw was laid out as a village in 1794 and became a burgh in 1855. The railway came in 1848. Coal pits and iron works soon followed. The town grew fast. Main Street still follows the line of an old Roman road. Clyde Chambers on Main Street went up in 1905 as tenement flats over shops.

In the late 1920s the burgh council began a big housing scheme at Craigneuk. It ran from the old village out to Berryhill. Those homes are now close to 100 years old. Homes of that age have often been rewired once, sometimes a long time ago.

Gowkthrapple was built as tower blocks and low-rise flats. The tallest towers date from the 1970s. The council plans to knock down the towers it owns. To the north, the old Ravenscraig steelworks site is filling up with new homes.

What we get called out for in Wishaw

Flat and terrace rewires

Older flats and terraces near Main Street often have tired wiring and too few sockets. We plan neat cable runs that suit thick walls and shared closes.

Linked fire alarms

Every home in Scotland now needs linked smoke and heat alarms. We fit mains-wired sets and test that they all sound together.

Landlord safety checks

Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords need an electrical safety check at least every 5 years. We test, report and fix what fails.

Fuse box upgrades

Older homes across Wishaw often still have an old board. A new consumer unit puts RCD protection on every circuit.

What we do in Wishaw

Electrician in Wishaw, questions answered

How much does a rewire cost in Wishaw?

It depends on the size of the home, how many circuits it needs and how easy the cables are to reach. A small flat is a very different job from a big family house. We look at your home first, then give you one fixed price in writing. The quote is free.

Do I need linked fire alarms in my Wishaw home?

Yes. Every home in Scotland needs smoke alarms in the living room and in every hall and landing. The kitchen needs a heat alarm. They must all be linked. If you have a boiler or fire that burns fuel, you need a CO alarm too. We can fit mains-wired alarms for you.

I let a flat in Wishaw. How often does it need an EICR?

At least every 5 years under the Repairing Standard. If three or more people from different families share the flat, it is an HMO and needs a licence from North Lanarkshire Council. We can do the checks and any repairs.

Are you really local?

Yes. We are based at 165 Main Street, Wishaw. Craigneuk, Netherton, Newmains and Overtown are all close by.
