Fuse Box Upgrades (New Consumer Unit)
Your fuse box, the consumer unit in the trade, is the heart of your home's electrics, and an old one is the weak point we find most often across Lanarkshire's older housing. A modern board cuts the power in a fraction of a second when something goes wrong, protecting you from shock and your home from electrical fire.
We test every circuit before the changeover so there are no surprises, fit a quality board with surge protection as standard, label everything clearly and walk you round the new board before we leave. Every upgrade is tested and certified to BS 7671, with your certificate on completion. Most are finished in a day.
What's included
Circuits tested first
Every circuit is inspected and tested before the swap, so hidden faults are found and priced honestly up front.
Protection on every circuit
Every circuit gets its own safety switch, so a fault in one room never blacks out the whole house.
Surge protection built in
Your TVs, computers and appliances are protected from damaging power spikes as standard.
Certified on completion
A clearly labelled board, fully tested and certified to BS 7671 and the Scottish building standards.
Fuse box upgrades questions, answered
How much does a fuse box replacement cost?
A new consumer unit in a typical Lanarkshire home usually costs in the region of £500 to £900, depending on the board, the number of circuits and any remedial work the tests flag up. We confirm one fixed price for your exact job before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
How long will the power be off?
Usually just a few hours in the middle of the day. We plan the changeover so the disruption to your home is as short as possible.
Why does my new fuse box trip when the old one never did?
Modern fuse boxes catch faults the old one silently ignored. That's exactly the protection you're paying for. We test every circuit at changeover, so anything the new board flags gets found and fixed properly.
Do I actually need a new fuse box?
If yours has rewireable fuses, a wooden back or no safety switches (RCDs), it's worth upgrading. If yours is fine, we'll tell you so. We'll never sell you a board you don't need.
